Join Our Group

We are actively seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to contribute to our pioneering research at the interface of protein science and material engineering.

Prospective PhD Students

Are you passionate about research and eager to make a significant impact in therapeutic delivery? We welcome applications from highly motivated candidates with a strong background in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, materials science, or a related discipline.

PhD projects in our group offer the chance to work on cutting-edge problems, develop a diverse skillset including computational and experimental techniques, and contribute to high-impact publications.

What we look for:

  • A first-class or upper second-class honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • A genuine enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research.

Funded PhD positions are advertised periodically on the Queen's University Belfast postgraduate recruitment portal and other relevant platforms. Speculative applications from exceptional self-funded candidates are also welcome.

Please contact Dr. Carmali with your CV and a cover letter outlining your research interests and suitability for the group.

Postdoctoral Fellows

We are looking for talented postdoctoral researchers to lead and contribute to exciting projects within our core research themes. Ideal candidates will have a strong publication record, expertise in areas such as protein engineering, bioconjugation, polymer chemistry, nanotechnology, or computational modelling, and a proactive approach to research.

Postdoctoral positions, when available, will be advertised on the Queen's University Belfast jobs portal and international academic job boards. We also support outstanding candidates in applying for independent research fellowships to join our group.

If you are interested in postdoctoral opportunities, please contact Dr. Carmali with your CV, a summary of your research achievements, and your future research interests.

Collaborations

We believe in the power of collaboration to tackle complex scientific challenges. Our group is open to establishing research partnerships with academic institutions and industry partners who share our vision for advancing therapeutic innovation.

If you are interested in exploring potential collaborations in areas such as:

  • Development of novel biomaterials
  • Advanced drug delivery systems
  • Computational protein design tools
  • Preclinical evaluation of new therapeutics

Please reach out to Dr. Carmali to discuss potential synergies.
